About Baringhup West
Baringhup West is a rural locality in the Shire of Mount Alexander in central Victoria, adjoining Baringhup on the Loddon River west of Maldon. The Baringhup name dates from the early 1860s and is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning 'a place for drinking water'. Baringhup West Primary School, one of Victoria's oldest public schools, opened as a common school in 1870 and closed in 1974.
