About Barkstead
Barkstead is a small rural locality in the Shire of Moorabool, located approximately 120 kilometres north-west of Melbourne and 25 kilometres from Ballarat. The area has a history rooted in the timber industry, with Barkstead Primary School opened in 1869 by the owners of two local sawmills and operating until 1971. It is a quiet rural community.
