About Quoiba

Quoiba is a residential and industrial suburb of Devonport, Tasmania, about 5 kilometres south of the city centre, on the south-western bank of the Mersey River. The name, first used about 1942, is believed to be an Aboriginal word for wombat, and the area was previously known as Spreyton Station. During World War II an Ovaltine factory was built here to supply the British war effort, followed by the Devon Cannery, and food processing remains part of the locality's character. Kelcey Tier is a nearby bushland reserve.
