About East Devonport
East Devonport is a suburb of Devonport on the north-west coast of Tasmania, on the eastern bank of the Mersey River opposite the city centre. It began as the settlement of Torquay in the 1850s and was the original heart of the town before uniting with Formby, on the west bank, to form Devonport in 1890. The Victoria Bridge, opened in 1902, was the first permanent road link across the river, and East Devonport is now the terminal for the Spirit of Tasmania ferries, with the Sir Robert Cosgrove roll-on roll-off terminal opened in 1959.
