About Aberdeen (Tas.)
Aberdeen is a rural locality in the Devonport local government area of north-west Tasmania, about 10 km south of the town of Devonport. Coal was discovered in the area in 1855, drawing Scottish miners who may have unofficially given it the name Aberdeen, and the locality today is given over largely to farming, with the Don River flowing through its south-west corner.
