About Kettering
Kettering is a coastal town on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel in southern Tasmania, about 32 km south of Hobart within the Kingborough municipality. Sheltered by Bruny Island, it is known for its marinas, scenic waterfront and artistic community, and is the departure point for the Bruny Island ferry. Settled by sealers, timber cutters and whalers in the early 1800s, the town grew around Little Oyster Cove, whose post office, opened in 1868, was renamed Kettering in 1892. Oyster Cove, just north of the town, became a government reserve for the remaining Palawa people in 1847.
