About Bothwell
Bothwell is a small town in central Tasmania on the River Clyde, about 76 km north of Hobart, settled in 1822 by families of Scottish origin and named after Bothwell in Scotland. It claims Australia's first golf course, laid out at Ratho Farm in the 1830s, and has more than 50 heritage-listed sandstone buildings, including St Luke's Church built in 1830. The town is a gateway to the Central Highlands fishing lakes, where trout were stocked from 1869.
