About Hollow Tree
Hollow Tree is a rural locality in the Central Highlands of Tasmania, about 17 kilometres north-east of Hamilton and 16 kilometres south-west of Bothwell, in the Clyde River valley. Settled as pastoral country from the early 1800s, with the first land grants made in 1821, it retains several significant Georgian and Gothic Revival sandstone homesteads built by convict labour, including Strathborough, Montacute and Sherwood. The district was part of the country of the Big River nation, whose resistance during the 1820s was remembered in the area's early history.
