About Apsley (Tas.)
Apsley is a rural locality on the Highland Lakes Road between Oatlands and the Central Plateau of Tasmania, about 35 km south-west of Oatlands and 59 km north-east of Hobart, spanning the Central Highlands and Southern Midlands councils. The Jordan River flows through it, and the area is open grazing country with sparse settlement. Apsley was the terminus of the state railway from Brighton, opened in 1891, whose facilities were a major part of the small village until the line closed in 1947.
