About Truro
Truro is a town on the Sturt Highway in South Australia, 80 km north-east of Adelaide, where the road crosses the Mount Lofty Ranges east of the Barossa Valley. Established in 1848 by John Howard Angas, son of the colony's leading settler, it grew from the copper mining at the Wheal Barton mine, worked from 1849, and many Cornish miners built the town's stone cottages. A way station on the early route between Adelaide and the Murray River, Truro now serves the surrounding broadacre farms as a gateway to the Barossa Valley and Riverland.
