About Port Wakefield
Port Wakefield is a small town and locality in the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council area of South Australia, situated at the head of the Gulf St Vincent approximately 100 kilometres north of Adelaide. The town was once a significant port for the export of grain from the surrounding agricultural districts before the railway reached the area. Port Wakefield sits within a landscape of broadacre cropping, sheep grazing and remnant native vegetation on the low coastal plains, with the nearby town of Lochiel providing local services.
