About Halbury
Halbury is a former railway town in the Mid North of South Australia, situated about 114 kilometres north of Adelaide between Balaklava and Auburn. Once a stop on the Port Wakefield narrow gauge railway, the area supports broadacre grazing and cropping on the northern Adelaide Plains. Halbury sits at the historic crossing of the Gulf Road, where from 1849 to 1857 bullock teams carted copper ore from the Burra mines to Port Wakefield. The nearby Devil's Garden, a treacherous stretch of that road, is a registered State Heritage Place, and the Copper Trail cycling route now follows the former railway corridor through the locality.
