About Balaklava
Balaklava is a town in the Mid North of South Australia, on the south bank of the Wakefield River about 92 km north of Adelaide and 25 km east of Port Wakefield, in the Wakefield Regional Council area. It grew from a stopping point on the copper road from Burra to Port Wakefield and was laid out in 1869, named after the Battle of Balaklava of the Crimean War. The town is home to the Balaklava Cup, one of South Australia's best-known country race meetings.
