About Crystal Brook (SA)

Crystal Brook is a town in the Mid North of South Australia, 197 kilometres north of Adelaide at the gateway of the Flinders Ranges. Explorer Edward John Eyre passed through in 1839 and named the spring-fed creek, which later gave the town its name, for its sparkling clear water. The township was surveyed in 1874 and proclaimed that year, growing as a service centre for the surrounding sheep and wheat country, with a name that celebrates the creek flowing through it.
