West Beach is a seaside suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, located approximately 10 kilometres west of the Adelaide CBD along the coast of Gulf St Vincent. The suburb is divided between the City of Charles Sturt and the City of West Torrens, and lies adjacent to Adelaide Airport. First laid out in 1929 from the estate of F.J. and P.J. Gray, the area was originally characterised by high undulating sandhills that were extensively graded and reshaped during subdivision. The West Beach Parks precinct, a 135-hectare beachfront recreation reserve, encompasses the Patawalonga and Westward Ho golf courses, the Adelaide Shores boat haven, sporting fields, and accommodation. The suburb also contains Apex Park along the River Torrens outlet, remnant coastal dunes, and wetland areas. Ongoing sand replenishment programmes address significant longshore drift erosion affecting the beach and dune systems.
