About Osborne (SA)
Osborne is a suburb on the Lefevre Peninsula in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, South Australia, located approximately 21 kilometres northwest of the Adelaide central business district. Named after Captain R.W. Osborne and gazetted in 1951, the suburb is bounded by Taperoo to the south, Gulf St Vincent to the west and Torrens Island to the east. BAE Systems Australia, formerly ASC Pty Ltd, has major naval shipbuilding facilities in Osborne having built the Collins-class submarines and Hobart-class destroyers for the Royal Australian Navy. Osborne Power Station, a gas-fired plant, is also located here. Flinders Ports operates two port facilities on the Port River coast.
