About Bowden

Bowden is an inner northern suburb of Adelaide in the City of Charles Sturt, South Australia, located 2 kilometres northwest of the Adelaide central business district. The Village of Bowden was established in 1839 by James Hurtle Fisher and named after his native village in Northamptonshire, England. The suburb has undergone a major transformation with the $1 billion Bowden development on the former 10-hectare Clipsal factory site, announced in 2008 with up to 1,500 medium and high-density Green Star residential apartments with retail and commercial offices. Plant 4 Bowden is a community and shopping centre and Bowden Park, opened in October 2016, serves as the town square. New streets are designed to be walkable and shared by vehicles, bicycles and people with pop-up street art, curbless tree-lined streets and street furniture. The population grew rapidly from 648 in 2006 due to the redevelopment.
