About Gawler River
Gawler River is a locality and former small town on the north bank of the Gawler River, about 10 kilometres west of Gawler in the Light Regional Council area. The Dawkins family established extensive farms here in the early 19th century and their Newbold Stud is credited with developing the Poll Dorset sheep breed, while the Gawler River church, built in 1854, is one of the earliest stone churches in the Gawler area.
