About Lewiston
Lewiston is a semi-rural locality about 6 km east of Two Wells and 12 km west of Gawler, roughly 56 km from Adelaide, on the northern Adelaide Plains. It was named in December 1864 in honour of James William Lewis, the Post Master General, and a post office opened early the following year. A school that began as Port Gawler East in 1857 was renamed Lewiston in 1866 and closed in 1944. The district remains a farming area of animals and crops, now with market gardens.
