About Woodside (SA)

Woodside is a historic town in the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia, located 37 kilometres from Adelaide between Balhannah and Lobethal. Established in the 1850s by the Johnston family of Oakbank to improve their brewery business, the town was the site of gold discoveries with the Bird-in-Hand mine operating from 1881 to 1889. Annual motor races were held on a street circuit each October from 1947 to 1951 before the State Government banned closing public roads for racing. Woodside is home to the 16th Regiment Royal Australian Artillery at Woodside Barracks, Melba's Chocolate Factory, Woodside Cheese Wrights and the Bird in Hand winery.
