About Brukunga

Brukunga is a small town in the Adelaide Hills, about 40 kilometres east of Adelaide and four kilometres north of Nairne. The name derives from the Kaurna word for place of fire stone, linked to the creator ancestor Tjilbruke. An iron pyrite mine operated from 1955 to 1972, and ongoing rehabilitation of acid mine drainage continues, while the Country Fire Service state training centre and Claremont Airbase are now located in the area.
