About Wattle Park

Wattle Park is a suburb of Adelaide in the City of Burnside, South Australia, located near the Magill and Stonyfell area. Possibly named by George Scarfe who purchased the property around 1880, his residence became the Wattle Park Teachers College in 1957 and then the Wattle Park Teachers Centre until 1972. In 1991 it became the centrepiece of Wattle Grove, a retirement village for Southern Cross Homes. The Stonyfell Olive Company, founded in 1873, had its olive crushing plant at the western end of Crompton Drive within what is now Wattle Park. By the early 1900s the company had 100 acres planted with approximately 10,000 olive trees and in 1932 was the largest producer of olive oil in South Australia with Bickford's bottling the oil. Wattle Park Post Office opened on 8 April 1965 and closed in 1967.
