About Nairne

Nairne is a township in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, about 7 kilometres from Mount Barker. It was founded in 1839 by Scottish settler Matthew Smillie, who bought a special survey of 4,000 acres north of Mount Barker and named the town after his wife's maiden name, Elizabeth Corse Nairne. The village stood on the direct overland route between Adelaide and Sydney.
