About Melawondi

Melawondi is a rural locality in the Wide Bay region of Queensland, located about 33 kilometres south of Gympie and 172 kilometres north of Brisbane in the Gympie Region. The locality is in the Mary Valley adjacent to Kandanga and Kandanga Creek, and the locality name derives from an Aboriginal clan name. The heritage-listed Melawondi cream shed, part of the Mary Valley Railway Cream Sheds, is located here alongside an abandoned railway station on the Mary Valley railway line, and the Melawondi timber mill operated by Superior Wood employs approximately 100 people.
