About Burrum Heads
Burrum Heads is a coastal town and locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, located 25 kilometres north-west of Hervey Bay and 316 kilometres north of Brisbane. Bounded by Hervey Bay to the north-east, the Burrum River to the west and Beelbi Creek to the south-east, the locality is home to the Burrum Coast National Park which occupies over half the area. The name Burrum is Kabi language for rocks interrupting river flow. Coal transport via stern-wheel steamer began in 1877. The town features a public library, bowls club, three boat ramps and a boardwalk opened in 2021.
