About Nelly Bay

Nelly Bay is a town on Magnetic Island, off the coast of Townsville in Queensland, and the island's main settlement. It is the site of the ferry terminal that links the island to Townsville and is a tourism hub with shops, restaurants and accommodation. The bay was named after Ellen Butler, known as Nellie, the daughter of one of the island's first European residents, and since 2003 the harbour has housed the island's principal ferry services.
