About Withcott
Withcott is a rural town in the Lockyer Valley Region of Queensland, located at the foot of the Toowoomba Range 8.7 kilometres east of the Toowoomba central business district and 118 kilometres west of Brisbane. The origin of the name Withcott is apparently unrecorded. Located in the Lockyer Valley, known as Australia's Salad Bowl and rated among the top ten most fertile farming areas in the world, the early industries were dairying and mixed farming. The town was severely impacted by flash flooding during the 2010 to 2011 Queensland floods on 10 January 2011, with residents evacuated from rooftops and the Warrego Highway cut off. Withcott State School opened in 1912, closed in 1971 due to falling enrolment and reopened in 1984.
