About Yandina
Yandina is a rural town and locality in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, located nine kilometres north of Nambour and 110 kilometres north of Brisbane. The name derives from the Kabi language meaning to cross water by foot, marking the first upstream ford over the Maroochy River. Aboriginal people have lived in the district for over 40,000 years. The town was surveyed in 1870 and is the oldest continuously inhabited town on the Sunshine Coast. Heritage-listed attractions include Koongalba homestead, All Saints Anglican Church from 1880, and the Yandina Hotel from 1889. The Buderim Ginger Factory, opened in 1980, is a major tourist attraction.
