About Beerwah

Beerwah is a town on the North Coast railway in Queensland's Sunshine Coast Region, 70 kilometres north of central Brisbane, at the foot of Mount Beerwah, the tallest of the Glass House Mountains. The town takes its name from the mountain, a volcanic plug regarded in Aboriginal legend as the mother peak, and sits beside Coochin Creek. Early settlement at the creek crossing shifted eastward when the railway arrived in 1890, bringing a sawmill, a hotel and soldier-settlement farms after World War I. Beerwah was a farming and timber community until residential growth from the 1980s made it a service town for the Caloundra hinterland.
