About Yowah
Yowah is an outback opal-mining town in the Shire of Paroo in south-west Queensland, the southernmost of western Queensland's opal fields. It is known for the Yowah nut, a precious opal found inside ironstone nodules that has been mined since the late 19th century, when the Southern Cross Mine was registered in 1884. The town is a popular stop for fossickers, with a caravan park and bore-water supply.
