About Somerset (Qld)
Somerset is a coastal locality at the northern tip of Cape York Peninsula in far north Queensland, split between the Shire of Torres and the Northern Peninsula Area Region, about 9.6 km south-east of Bamaga. It is the northernmost locality on the Queensland mainland. The settlement of Somerset was established here in 1864 as a port of refuge and naval post, and ruins of the old homestead remain.
