About Punsand
Punsand is a coastal and off-shore locality in the Shire of Torres, Queensland, at the north-western tip of Cape York Peninsula. It includes several Torres Strait islands, most notably Possession Island, where Lieutenant James Cook claimed the east coast of Australia for Britain in 1770. Possession Island is now a national park. Punsand Bay on the mainland offers camping facilities.
