About Lizard
Lizard is an offshore locality of islands and coral cays in the Great Barrier Reef within the Coral Sea, in the Shire of Cook, Queensland. It takes its name from Lizard Island, the largest island, named by Lieutenant James Cook in 1770 after lizards were the only land animals his crew saw there. The locality contains three national parks, Lizard Island, Turtle Group and Three Islands Group, and Mrs Watson's Cottage on Lizard Island is heritage-listed.
