About Evans Landing
Evans Landing is a locality within the Weipa Town on the western coast of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, situated on the Embley River. Named after geologist Harry Evans who discovered economic bauxite deposits in the area in 1955, the site became the base for early mining operations with construction of a pilot beneficiation plant and wharf commencing in 1960. The first commercial bauxite shipment departed from Evans Landing in March 1963.
