About Augathella

Augathella is a small rural town on the Warrego River in the Shire of Murweh, about 85 kilometres north-east of Charleville at the junction of the Landsborough and Mitchell Highways. Originally called Burenda, it was renamed Ellangowan and then Augathella in 1883, from an Indigenous word meaning camp on a waterhole, and grew as a bullock team convergence point serving the grazing industry.
