About Alpha

Alpha is a rural town and locality in the Barcaldine Region of Central West Queensland, situated approximately 270 kilometres west of Rockhampton. The town was the focal point of the 1891 Shearers Strike, one of Australia's most significant industrial disputes, which contributed to the formation of the Australian Labor Party. Alpha is also known as the gateway to the Sapphire Gemfields and serves as a service centre for the surrounding pastoral district.
