About Kurwongbah
Kurwongbah is a rural locality in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, located 37 kilometres north of the Brisbane central business district. The name is allegedly from the Kabi language for Sideling Creek meaning black duck, chosen via a local newspaper competition in 1958. Sideling Creek Dam, also known as Lake Kurwongbah, was created in 1957. Lakeside Park is a motor racing venue on the lake shore. A large Holcim quarry operates in the locality with an active Land for Wildlife regeneration program. Despite being named Kurwongbah State School, the school is actually located in neighbouring Petrie, not within Kurwongbah itself.
