About Dakabin
Dakabin is a locality in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, 29 km north of Brisbane. Its name derives from the Yugarabul Aboriginal word for "grass tree" (Xanthorrhoea), applied to the railway siding on the North Coast line opened in 1888 and gazetted in 1979. Bounded by the railway to the west and Bruce Highway to the east, it has a station on the Caboolture and Sunshine Coast lines. Once a rural district of dairying and timber-getting, Dakabin urbanised from the 1960s and is home to Dakabin State High School and the former Alma Park Zoo.
