About Ooralea
Ooralea is a southern suburb of Mackay, Queensland, formally named in 1999 from an Aboriginal word meaning Kangaroo Park. The Mackay Turf Club was established on the site in 1866, and the suburb experienced rapid growth after the Central Queensland University campus opened in 1992 and during the mining boom of the 2000s.
