About Homebush (Qld)
Homebush is a rural locality in the Mackay Region of Queensland, approximately 20 kilometres south-west of Mackay city centre. The name derives from a pastoral run established in the 1860s, and the Colonial Sugar Refineries opened a sugar mill here in 1883. The heritage-listed Homebush Mission Hall is associated with the South Sea Islander communities that helped establish the Mackay sugar industry. The surrounding landscape is dominated by cane farming country.
