About Gregory River (Whitsunday - Qld)

Gregory River is a coastal rural locality in the Whitsunday Region, bounded to the north by Edgecumbe Bay on the Coral Sea. The Gregory River and Greta Creek flow into the bay forming the locality's boundaries, while the Bruce Highway and North Coast railway line traverse the area. Low-lying coastal flats give way to mountainous terrain rising to 806 metres in the south-east, where the Gregory River rises within Dryander National Park. Land use is dominated by pastoral grazing, sugarcane in the river flats, and prawn farming on the coastal marshland.
