About Tanah Merah
Tanah Merah is a residential suburb in the City of Logan in south-east Queensland, named by the Queensland Place Names Board in 1971. The name is Malay for 'red earth', chosen because the original land was bought and named by the McBrides, an English family who had moved to Brisbane from Penang in Malaysia. The suburb, which was formerly part of Slacks Creek, grew rapidly after land west of Drews Road was developed into a housing estate in the early 2000s.
