About Kooralbyn
Kooralbyn is a rural locality in the Scenic Rim Region of Queensland, located 95.6 kilometres south-southwest of the Brisbane central business district. The name is a Yugambeh word meaning place of the copperhead snake. John Tinker Campbell established Kooralbyn pastoral station in the 1840s. The Kooralbyn Resort, with 55 hillside holiday houses designed by renowned architect Harry Seidler completed in 1982, closed in 2008 and reopened as Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley in June 2016 after more than $7 million in restoration. Kooralbyn International School, a Prep to 12 private school, opened on 30 January 1985. The Scenic Rim Aerodrome, a private airstrip, is in the locality. Mount Kooralbyn at 281 metres and Mount Tilley at 351 metres are prominent features. Land use is predominantly grazing on native vegetation.
