About Plainland

Plainland is a town in the Lockyer Valley Region of Queensland, located 76.3 kilometres west-southwest of Brisbane along the Warrego Highway. Settled by twelve German families from West Prussia in 1878, the town features the heritage-listed Porters Plainland Hotel which opened in 1905 and Schulte's Gourmet Market which has operated since 1952. The Lockyer Valley is one of Australia's most fertile agricultural regions known as the salad bowl of Australia. Faith Lutheran College opened in 1999 and Sophia College, a Catholic secondary school, opened in 2021. Plainland Plaza is expanding to include Coles and a town square. The town experienced population decline in the mid-twentieth century but has recovered strongly since the late 1990s.
