About Lake Wivenhoe
Lake Wivenhoe is the name of both the artificial lake formed by Wivenhoe Dam and the locality that contains it, in the Somerset Region of Queensland about 80 kilometres north-west of Brisbane. Built in 1984 on the Brisbane River, the dam is South East Queensland's largest water storage and the main water supply for Brisbane and the greater Ipswich area, and also provides flood mitigation. The lake is used for boating, kayaking and camping, and the surrounding locality is largely rural.
