About Churchill (Qld)
Churchill is a suburb of Ipswich in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, located 4.5 kilometres from the Ipswich central business district. The western boundary is marked by the Bremer River and the eastern boundary follows Deebing Creek. The first section of the Dugandan railway line opened on 10 July 1882 as Queensland's first branch railway serving the Fassifern Valley. A Baptist Church opened in 1913, famously built by volunteers in four and a quarter hours using prefabricated parts, a technique reported in The Brisbane Courier as Rapid Church Building. Churchill State School opened on 29 January 1923. The Mary Evans Reserve is a notable landmark. The suburb is in the state electorate of Ipswich and the federal Division of Blair.
