About Pittsworth
Pittsworth is a rural town and service centre on the Darling Downs, 41 kilometres south-west of Toowoomba. Originally known as Beauaraba, it grew around a wayside hotel and was renamed in 1915 after the Pitt family who established the Goombungee pastoral run in 1854. The railway reached the town in 1877, and by 1914 Pittsworth dairy factories were producing roughly 80 per cent of all cheese manufactured on the Darling Downs. The surrounding Condamine River floodplains provide some of Australia's finest grain and cotton country.
