About Barakula
Barakula is a rural locality in the Western Downs Region of Queensland, about 45 kilometres north of Chinchilla. Nearly the whole locality lies within Barakula State Forest, dedicated in 1907 as one of Queensland's first state forests and today the largest state forest in the Southern Hemisphere, straddling the Great Dividing Range. It remains a working forest supplying much of Queensland's cypress pine timber, and is known for spectacular wildflowers in late winter and spring.
