About Seventeen Seventy
Seventeen Seventy is a coastal town in the Gladstone Region of Queensland, about 120 km north of Bundaberg on the Discovery Coast, with Agnes Water just to the south. It stands on the site where Captain Cook and the crew of the Endeavour made their first landing in Queensland in May 1770, at Bustard Bay, and the landing place is heritage-listed. The town, originally called Round Hill and renamed in 1936, sits on a peninsula with the Coral Sea on three sides and bills itself as the closest access point to the Great Barrier Reef, making it a base for fishing, boating and reef trips.
