About Woree
Woree is a suburb of Cairns in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia, located 6.7 kilometres south of the Cairns central business district. The name derives from the Yidiny language of the local Indigenous Yidiny people, meaning young persons near waterways. Previously known as Four Mile and Pryns Station, the suburb was named after Woree railway station, established in 1914 on the North Coast railway line. The Bruce Highway traverses the suburb, and notable features include Cannon Park, home of the Cairns Jockey Club since 1911, the Cairns Golf Club, and the Woree Sports and Aquatic Centre.
